FAQ

We have 14 clients connecting to a portal outside of our firewall, the room we are joining has a maximum of 300kbps requested bandwidth. Our connection is 6mbps, what’s in the other end at portalserver I don't know.

In the settings for video option, each client request 256kbps at 25fps, this seems to result in that each client will only receive approximately 15-25kbps (300kbps/14) at the most. When we only have 2 clients connecting they will receive about 100-150kbps and the more clients that connect the lower the received bandwidth gets.

Is the maximum requested bandwidth shared by all clients connecting to the room or is it the maximum for each client?

We have also tried the evaluation portal locally on a separate network with only a Cisco 2900 Catalyst switch (10/100 mbps) between our 14 clients and the portal, the portal allows a maximum of 300kbps requested bandwidth and we get the same result.

In the FAQ you can read: Normally you need around 300 kbps to achieve a good lip synchronization.

To get good lip synchronization/smoothness in video it seems like we need a higher request bandwidth.

We have also tried the "Direct Call" option and then we get a maximum of 1000kbps requested bandwidth. In a direct call the two clients each will receive about 200-600kbps, and the video smoothness is just fine.

Any suggestions to this...
It seems to me that there should be a higher bandwidth limit on the portal/room that we are using (and a matching speed on their connection to the internet) to get a good video smoothness with as much as 14 clients connecting to the room.

The limit set when creating a room is the total bandwidth shared by all connecting clients.

Correct. You should raise the limit on your meeting room. Just be careful of not overloading your server's connection to the network!

Hope this helped. Do not hesitate to ask if you have any more questions related to this.

Thanks for using the forum!

I would also like to point ot that the "quality" setting does not mean "numbner of updates" - it means the quality will be higher, usually giving you LESS updates.
