Keynote Speaker
Kim Falk Jorgensen is a Principal Recommender Engineer at DPG Media, where he works on recommender systems across the group’s news and entertainment properties. He previously held staff and principal engineering roles at Shopify and IKEA, working on recommendation and personalization across e-commerce and retail contexts. He is pursuing an industrial PhD focused on the long-term effects of recommender systems through bandit-based approaches, and is the author of Modern Recommender Systems (Manning Publications, forthcoming). He serves as co-chair of the industry track at the ACM RecSys conference. We are delighted to have him for a talk on Recommending News in the Wild - Practical Challenges from the Trenches at INRA 2026.Abstract: News recommendation is a multi-stakeholder problem, shaped by the competing demands of engineering constraints, editorial values, and user behavior in ways that standard benchmark results rarely capture. In this talk I draw on experience building and operating recommender systems at DPG Media, one of the largest media groups in the Benelux, to examine the practical challenges that arise when theory meets production.
